DIY: Plastic Picnic Table Makeover

Fotor0908120615 copy copySummer means BBQ’s and family gatherings in the backyard.  With Olivia’s cousins coming to visit this coming weekend, a DIY projects were in order.  IMG_1176-001 copyI found this picnic table on the side of the road about to be picked up by a dump truck.  One persons trash is another persons treasures, right?  IMG_1196-1Jamie had a wonderful, little supervisor as he took the table apart.  It was easier to take the table apart in order to spray paint using two different colors.  Screws and bolts held each piece together so a screwdriver or drill will help.Fotor0908115953 copyJamie picked out two “coastal” Valspar for indoor/outdoor plastic spray paint and primer colors.  It took two good coats to really cover it and then one final coat of Rustoleum clear glossy finish spray to protect it.  IMG_1344 copyI think it turned out super cute!Fotor0908120347 copyAnd the most important person loves it too!

Tried and True Toys

It’s another Kid Tested, Mom Approved Link Up Party today!  Todays party theme is Tried and True Toys: let’s face it, kids love toys…and so do moms! We all have a ton of them, but what toys are your kid’s favorites?

Olivia is under three months and still discovering the world.  The Kick & Play Piano Gym is her favorite toy that can keep her busy for at least 15 minutes which is like an hour to an adult. This gym is re-positionable in each of its three modes of play.  In lay & play baby can kick at the piano keys and look up at a toy-filed arch, in tummy time the arch swivels down to the mat and baby can lie and look directly into a large mirror and finally in sit & play the piano keys level up and baby play at the piano while surrounded by toys on the swiveled down arch.  Their is a large sun mirror which lets her stare at herself, an elephant with a roller ball, a lion with a soft teethable mane, a frog with clackers and a soft birdie teether.  The music is really upbeat and fun.  I did a lot of researching and got advice from friends about which playmate to select.  I could not be happier with my selection!

playmateLivie seems to like to use her right leg to kick the piano and her left hand to grasp at things.  At first she would just lay there and stare at herself quietly.  She has really started to become aware of all the toys hanging above her within the last two weeks.  She has even started to reach and grasp for certain toys on purpose during the last few days.  I love how this playmate will entertain her all the way up to 18 months!  I paid $55.99 a half a year ago and now have found it as low as $29.99 new on Amazon.
