Fresh Produce

 IMG_0143-004IMG_0603 IMG_0823

We have had such a great bounty of fresh produce from our garden lately.  The garden is slowly dying off but still producing!  I really didn’t think we would get so much out of it for our first year, but boy I was wrong. I am so proud of Jamie and all of his hard work. IMG_9721

Day 22: Master Sneak Peek

home reno
Want a sneak peek into our master bedroom and bathroom?

IMG_2351

The color of both the bedroom and bathroom is Valspars Sea Breath.  It had the word Sea in the name so of course I had to keep with an ocean theme for both rooms.

IMG_2372

It is more of a sea-foam green sometimes but then it can look blue.  I love it!

IMG_2513

The linens were from Homegoods.  I got a whole set with accent pillows for only $69.99.  I know the sand dollars are very literal and probably belong in a beach house, but I love it!

By Samantha on Etsy provided the four coral silhouettes prints that hang above our bed.

If it isn’t raining tomorrow, I will post some pictures of the finished master bedroom! It’s all about natural lighting!

Day 3: Olivia’s Room

home reno

Day 3 of the 31 Days Challenge is going to show the transformation of Olivia Roses Nursery.

IMG_2676

The first room I wanted to conquer in our new house was Olivia’s room.  My nesting instinct really kicked in and I wanted to make sure it was done before she was born.  Not sure why since I knew she would be staying in our room at first.  Jamie didn’t get why I wanted it done so badly but I just had an urge to work on it.  The walls of the original room were purple with so many Disney stickers stuck on the wall.  It had a Disney Princess border and the ugly people who lived here before etched obscenities into the wall.  Lovely.  Jamie had to fill in the nasty words with putty and take down a lot of stickers on the wall before he could paint.  I choose Valspar’s Minty Fresh from Lowes as the wall color for Olivia’s walls with pink accents.

One of my moms favorite design show’s is Design on a Dime.  When the show first started the budget to complete a room was $1,000.  The current show’s budget is $2500.  Here’s how Olivia’s adorable bedroom was created on a Design on a Dime $1,000 budget.

I found this $150 wood dresser at a Habitat For Humanity store in Savannah.  I had been searching for a long dresser that was short enough for me to be able to change a baby comfortably.  I’m 5’2ish and all the dressers I looked at in stores were just too tall for me to reach over a changing pad.  Plus, they were like $600+.  No thank you.  My Mom painted it white and the knobs a light pink.  It is a really nice piece and it was in great condition.  Their were a few scratches but we just filled it in with wood filler and they instantly disappeared.  The middle section opens and has two pull out drawers where I store diapers.  IMG_2518IMG_3078
I love laying pretty things on her dresser.  This burp cloth and bib set is just so sweet!  A friend found it on a trip to Richmond, VA and knew the colors of Olivia’s room.  I almost don’t want to use it because they are so pretty!

My mom found this Pottery Barn rocking chair on Craigslist for $150 in great condition.  I just unzipped the cushion covers and washed them.  The white side telephone table was free from a friend cleaning out her closet.  It was a maple wood finish and we just painted it white.  The light was an old light from Goodwill we we already had from our last house that we spray painted pink.

My father and I built a little white table when I was seven for my room.  I wanted to find something for people to sign during our baby showers but just could not find anything that I liked.  Most sold for baby showers are large serving dishes.  What’s the point of that for a baby?  I thought a stepping stool would be cute but when I looked at the one we had, it was just too small to fit three baby showers worth of signatures.  So my mom suggested this little white table she had up in her attic in storage.  It was perfect!  I got green and pink sharpies to match her rooms color scheme and people wrote little notes to her.  They are all so sweet and will be so fun to look back on in the future.  We covered it with a sealant so she can use it and not ruin the messages.

I searched for a rug for months and just could not find one the pinks I wanted or one under $250 for the size I needed.  Rugs are so expensive.  For girls rooms, the pink rugs out their are almost all shag and just would not hold up to a little one rough housing on it.  Jamie and I went to Target the Tuesday of the week Olivia was born to get some sheets and on the end of a random isle I found this pink 4’x5’5″ scalloped rug on clearance for only $50.  It was perfect!  Talk about girly.

The Shabby Chic pink curtains were from Target as well as the white flower curtain rod.  The curtains were $25 each.  I got the white bench with three cubes from Target for $50.  It can also be a writing/drawing table on top.  The pink collapsible boxes in them were in the $1 spot section of Target.  We had so many Target gift cards from our baby shower (I’m talking hundreds of dollars) so I used most of them to get the finishing pieces for her room.

I found this cute Olivia sign at Home Goods on sale for under $10.  I was hanging her next days outfit on it but I really needed a solution for all of the hair accessories she has.  I saw on Pinterest many moms put ribbon onto the back of name signs for their daughters bows to clip onto.

IMG_3083
I have so much ribbon in my craft room that I just cut three strips the same length and then just hot glued them to the back of the sign.  I still have to use a box to hold all of the elastic hairbands that the bows clip and some more accessories that just can’t fit onto it but this makes everything much more organized and pretty.  This is only half of the hair accessories she has but at least some of it is organized!

I love her crib.  It is a white convertible Jenny Lind and is the exact same one I had when I was a baby.  We got it for $175 on Zulily but you can find it at JcPennys. The Harper Nursery Bedding Collection came from Pottery Barn.  I didn’t want frilly ruffles and to pay $300 for custom baby bedding that wouldn’t last long so we went with Pottery Barn.  My mom gets a designer discount with them so the bedding all cost $130 and that included two fitted sheets for when Olivia had any accidents and one was in the wash.  I think it is simple and classic with the fitted style but still fun with the chevron fitted sheet!

IMG_2656
The custom 22×28 Olivia painting came from an artist off of Etsy.  Little B’s Art does Lilly Pulitzer inspired custom paintings.  I told her exactly what color Olivia’s bedroom walls were and the color scheme. She came up with this based off a classic print Lilly Roses.  How could I not get this print with the name Rose in it since that is Livie’s middle name? You can even find Olivia’s in her pictures for the item in her shop 🙂

Fotor01003131934The chandelier light came from Ikea a few years back.  I originally purchased it to go in my sun room of my old house but it hung to low and would get hit by the french doors that opened up into it.  It has sat in the original box for over 3 years and I finally found the perfect home for it.  Olivia’s room.  The Kristaller 3 light chandelier was only $19.99 at the time.  Now it is $39.99.

The final step to put her room together was of course organizing all of her clothes.  Little Livie wasn’t even born yet and had a bigger wardrobe then me.  With three baby showers for a baby girl, you can imagine how many outfits we got.  They were all so cute!  This isn’t even all of it because her dresser was full too.  I purchased a Pink & White Flower Closet Divider Set by Happy Closet from Zulily for $12.99.  They sell them on Amazon for $19.99.
